About JHOTAS Lab
Hi, I’m JHOTA, the person behind JHOTAS Lab.
I work in the electrical construction industry in South Korea, with hands-on experience in field construction and electrical project coordination.
I started this site because electricity is everywhere in our daily lives, yet many electrical topics are either explained too technically or oversimplified to the point that they become misleading.
JHOTAS Lab is my attempt to make those topics clearer, more practical, and easier to use in real life.
⚡ What Is JHOTAS Lab?
JHOTAS Lab is an independent website focused on electricity, electrical safety, energy, and practical electrical knowledge.
The site covers topics such as:
- Home electrical safety and troubleshooting
- Outlets, power strips, breakers, and electrical panels
- Electricity bills and energy-saving ideas
- Electrical calculators and practical tools
- Solar power and battery energy storage
- AI data centers and changing electricity demand
- Electrical construction and field experience
- Energy policies, incentives, and support programs
The goal is simple:
Help readers understand electricity well enough to make better decisions.
That might mean checking whether a power strip is overloaded, understanding why an electricity bill increased, learning what happens during a power outage, or following how AI and renewable energy are changing the power grid.
🛠 Built From Practical Electrical Experience
A large part of JHOTAS Lab comes from my experience working in the electrical construction industry.
Electrical work is rarely as simple as a diagram or a formula.
Real projects involve cables, breakers, transformers, protection systems, equipment ratings, construction conditions, coordination, cost, and safety.
That practical perspective influences how I write.
I try to explain not only what something is, but also:
Why does it matter?
What should you actually check?
What can go wrong in the real world?
At the same time, I do not pretend to have experience that I do not have.
My professional experience is based in South Korea.
For articles about the United States, I research official sources such as government agencies, grid operators, utilities, codes, national laboratories, and manufacturer documentation.
🔍 Research Before Guesswork
Electricity and energy information changes.
Electricity rates change. Incentive programs end. Grid conditions evolve. New regulations appear.
For that reason, articles involving current policies, energy markets, data centers, solar power, battery storage, or electrical regulations are researched using primary sources whenever possible.
You will often see references from organizations such as:
- U.S. Energy Information Administration
- U.S. Department of Energy
- FERC
- NERC
- ERCOT
- PJM
- Korea Electric Power Corporation
- Government agencies and local authorities
When numbers or rules can change over time, I try to show the source and the date checked.
🧮 More Than Articles
JHOTAS Lab is also gradually becoming a collection of practical electrical tools.
Instead of only explaining a formula, I want readers to be able to use it.
That is why the site includes and continues to develop calculators for topics such as electricity usage, electrical loads, outlets, power strips, and other everyday electrical questions.
The long-term goal is to combine:
Practical guides + electrical experience + useful tools
in one place.
🌎 Why Write About U.S. Energy?
The electricity industry is changing quickly.
AI data centers are creating enormous new loads. Battery storage is expanding. Solar generation is growing rapidly in states such as Texas. Nuclear power is receiving renewed attention. Utilities are debating who should pay for new grid infrastructure.
These are not just technology stories.
They are electrical infrastructure stories.
As someone working in electrical construction, I find that transition especially interesting.
JHOTAS Lab follows these changes from an electrical perspective while relying on official U.S. sources rather than presenting myself as a U.S. electrician or U.S. field expert.
🌱 Why I Started JHOTAS Lab
The idea behind this site came from a simple experience.
Once you begin managing a home and working around electrical systems every day, you realize how many basic questions are surprisingly difficult to answer clearly.
How much can I safely plug into this outlet?
Why did my electricity bill suddenly increase?
Do solar panels work during a blackout?
Does a bigger breaker solve an overload problem?
Why does a data center need hundreds of megawatts of electricity?
There are good answers to these questions.
They just need to be explained properly.
That is what I want JHOTAS Lab to do.
💬 Questions, Corrections, and Ideas Are Welcome
JHOTAS Lab is still growing.
If you notice something that should be updated, have an electrical question, or think there is a topic worth covering, feel free to get in touch.
