NeoVolta BESS Business: What Changed After the SK On Deal?

NEOV NeoVolta — daily price and volume, captured October 16, 2026

When I covered SK On’s move into the U.S. energy storage market in early September, NeoVolta was mainly interesting because of one large number: 9 GWh.

On August 31, NeoVolta announced that its majority-owned NeoVolta Power business had signed a five-year agreement for SK On to supply 9 GWh of U.S.-manufactured LFP battery cells from 2027 through 2031.

The companies also outlined a broader framework that could add another 9 GWh of activity, including battery-pack manufacturing by NeoVolta Power.

A month later, there is more to evaluate.

NeoVolta has reported financial results, advanced its Georgia manufacturing facility and converted part of its utility-scale project pipeline into a capacity reservation agreement.

At the same time, NEOV shares are trading well below where they were when the original JHOTAS-LAB article was published.

That makes NeoVolta a useful example of why project progress and stock-price performance need to be evaluated separately.

What NeoVolta Actually Does

NeoVolta began primarily as a residential energy-storage company, but its business is now moving toward a much larger market.

The company controls 80% of NeoVolta Power, a joint venture developing a battery energy storage manufacturing facility in Pendergrass, Georgia.

According to NeoVolta’s latest annual filing, the plant occupies approximately 210,600 square feet and is designed for an initial annual production capacity of about 2 GWh. The company says the site could eventually scale toward 8 GWh per year.

That changes the business model considerably.

Residential batteries are still part of NeoVolta’s operations, but the Georgia facility is aimed at commercial, industrial and utility-scale BESS projects.

The SK On agreement fits directly into that expansion because NeoVolta needs a long-term supply of battery cells before it can manufacture large volumes of complete storage systems.

The SK On Deal Is Only One Part of the Project Pipeline

NeoVolta BESS: Which Numbers Are Committed and Which Are Still Potential?

Reported figureCurrent business meaningWhat it does not prove
9 GWh, 2027–2031Signed SK On supply agreement for U.S.-made LFP battery cellsNot 9 GWh of completed NeoVolta BESS sales
Additional 9 GWhBroader proposed collaboration covering cell supply and pack purchasesNot a separate completed sales volume

About $200 million / 1.1 GWhPotential utility-scale pipeline under a non-binding letter of intentNot guaranteed contracted revenue
2 GWh initial; 8 GWh targetStated annual factory capacity plan and potential expansionNot evidence of actual annual production achieved

What matters next: signed customer purchase orders, production commissioning, delivered systems and recognized revenue. For the next operating milestone, read NeoVolta Pendergrass Production Ramp: What Has to Happen Before Revenue Scales?.

The 9 GWh cell agreement is important, but it is not the same as 9 GWh of completed NeoVolta BESS sales.

SK On will supply U.S.-manufactured LFP cells from 2027 through 2031. A broader collaboration framework could add another 9 GWh of activity and includes plans for SK On to purchase storage packs assembled by NeoVolta Power.

Since the original JHOTAS-LAB article, NeoVolta has also announced progress on another commercial relationship.

On September 17, the company said Infinite Grid Capital had reserved approximately $53 million of manufacturing capacity for battery systems intended for Northern Ontario edge-AI data-center projects.

That was significant because it represented the first commercial capacity reservation tied to a previously announced utility-scale framework.

The broader pipeline with Infinite Grid Capital has been described as approximately 1.1 GWh, representing roughly $200 million of potential deployments across projects including West Texas, Puerto Rico and PJM territory. Much of that larger pipeline, however, remains subject to future orders and execution.

The Manufacturing Ramp Is Now the Main Test

The next step is not another announcement.

It is production.

NeoVolta said in its September financial update that commissioning of the Pendergrass facility was progressing and that production ramp-up was expected during the second quarter of fiscal 2027.

Management is also considering a second production line that could move the facility toward the company’s targeted 8 GWh annual capacity in 2028.

That is where the story changes from planned capacity to operating capacity.

A factory designed for several gigawatt-hours of annual production has value only if equipment is commissioned, customers place binding orders and manufactured systems are delivered.

What the Price Chart Shows—and What It Cannot Tell Us

JHOTAS-LAB published the original SK On article on September 5, a Saturday. NEOV had closed the previous trading session at $3.86 on September 4.

By October 6, the stock had closed at $2.85, about 26% below that level. There was significant volatility in between, including a 21% single-day rebound on October 2.

The broader U.S. market was much stronger over this period and the S&P 500 reached a record closing high on October 6. That makes NEOV’s decline particularly notable, but it still does not tell us exactly why investors sold the stock.

The chart shows that positive project announcements did not translate into a sustained higher share price.

It does not prove that the SK On agreement or the BESS expansion has failed.

Business Reality: The Pipeline Is Growing Faster Than Current Revenue

NeoVolta’s latest financial results show why the distinction matters.

Fiscal-year 2026 revenue increased 58% to $13.3 million, up from $8.4 million the previous year.

But fourth-quarter revenue was only about $13,500, compared with $4.8 million in the year-earlier quarter. NeoVolta attributed the sharp decline largely to weakness in its residential and traditional installer channels following changes in federal tax law.

The company also reported a $21.5 million GAAP net loss for fiscal 2026.

At the same time, NeoVolta is funding a much larger manufacturing expansion. Its annual filing estimates total funding requirements for NeoVolta Power at roughly $40 million through June 2027, with additional capital contributions still required.

So the current situation is fairly clear:

9 GWh of contracted cell supply is not 9 GWh of BESS sales.

A $200 million potential project pipeline is not $200 million of booked revenue.

An 8 GWh factory target is not 8 GWh of annual production.

Those numbers become meaningful only as production, deliveries and revenue begin to follow.

What to Watch Next

NeoVolta is more interesting today than it was when the first SK On article was published because there are now several measurable milestones.

The first is whether the Pendergrass facility completes commissioning and begins meaningful commercial production.

The second is whether the Infinite Grid Capital pipeline continues converting from letters of intent and capacity reservations into binding BESS orders.

The third is whether the broader SK On manufacturing framework develops into actual pack orders in addition to the signed cell-supply agreement.

And finally, the financial statements need to show that NeoVolta’s shift from residential storage toward C&I and utility-scale BESS is producing sustainable revenue and better operating economics.

For now, NeoVolta has made progress in building the infrastructure and partnerships required for a larger BESS business.

The next phase is proving that those partnerships can become manufactured systems, delivered projects and recurring revenue.
